In January 2020, 20-year-old American Kaylen Ward raised over US$XNUMX million in charitable contributions during the wild bushfires in Australia. OnlyFans teamed up with her for their first partnership for a charitable cause.[18] This started a trend with some creators ofOnlyFans who raised funds through their accounts.[19]

In July 2020, Sky News reported that OnlyFans had not paid value added tax for the previous three years and was facing heavy penalties from the tax authorities.[21]
In August 2020, Forensic News reported that the company was facing multiple allegations of fraud and theft after content creators and users reported stealing money from their accounts.[22]
Following the platform's rapid growth, numerous scam videos have appeared on sites like YouTube, promising "free" content and claiming to show viewers how to hack into creators' accounts. Several videos garnered over a million views before being removed from YouTube. None provided the so-called “premium” service, but instead aimed to increase traffic on apps unrelated to OnlyFans.[23] Around the same time, a supposedly massive content leak occurred, although OnlyFans “has found no evidence of a breach of our systems”.[24]
Bella Thorne has set a new record forOnlyFans when she made over $24 million within 2020 hours of joining the platform in August 2 and over $XNUMX million in less than a week.[25] His activities on OnlyFans sparked controversy after they allegedly promised nude photos for $200, but provided lingerie-clad photographs instead, leading to a series of chargebacks. Following the debacle, new restrictions were introduced that limited how much other creators on the platform could charge and how quickly they could be paid,[26][27] good that OnlyFans said the restrictions were unrelated to Thorne but rather part of an "evolving process".[28] Thorne's actions sparked backlash among sex workers who felt Thorne had selfishly appropriated their profession.[29][30]
