Users of TikTok are using the term “accountant” as slang for sex work after a user posted a video that quickly became a meme.
Google Trends shows searches for the term increased Wednesday morning ET, although the cause is unclear.
The phenomenon began in July 2020, when the user of TikTok, Rocky Panterra, who describes himself as a “struggling actor,” sang about how it was easier to lie and tell people he was an accountant than to explain his actual career.
