Sexting in the suburbs (called a few times Broken silence) is a 2012 film directed by John Stimpson and starring Liz Vassey, Jenn Proske, Ryan Kelley and Kelli Goss.[1]

The film opens as school outcast Dina Van Cleve (Jenn Proske) walks down the hall of her school. When she opens her locker, a pile of condoms that have been stuffed inside as a prank fall out. Later, Dina is shown alone in her room recording a video diary. When her mother, Rachel (Liz Vassey) comes home, she finds that Dina has hanged herself.

The film then flashes back six weeks, showing Dina as a popular and talented field hockey player who has been voted homecoming queen at her school. However, the night ends on a bad note when she changes her mind about giving her virginity to her boyfriend, Mark (Ryan Kelley), who angrily leaves. Dina comes home while Mark goes to an after-party and cheats on Dina with her rival, Skylar Reid (Kelli Goss). Dina takes some naked photos of herself and sends them to Mark the next morning. But when she arrives at school, she is surprised by the applause of the student body and soon realizes that her photos have been seen on campus. Distraught by a wall of cruel comments already written about her in the girls' bathroom, Dina asks Mark to tell her who he sent them too, but he swears he didn't.

Back in the present, Rachel is in Dina's room when someone calls Dina's phone. This is a friend of hers, who was studying abroad. She tells Rachel that the only way to find anything about Dina is to look online. Rachel discovers Dina's video diary and tries to interrogate Claire Stevens (Rachel Delante), who won't tell her. After going to the school administration to question the social media profiles that were harassing Dina, Rachel writes an article damning the school administration when she refuses to help and seems more interested in covering the whole story. 'incident. The article attracts the attention of numerous news networks and gives the administration serious backlash, but it also hurts Rachel's cause. No one at Dina's school will talk to her and she loses some of her real estate jobs because no one will buy her a house.

Rachel becomes the target of a revenge campaign. Someone fills their mailbox with letters that say "Leave Him Alone" with cut out letters and a picture of a noose. Dina's grave is vandalized with someone spray painting "Dina is a bitch" and leaving her torn letter and condoms. After breaking down and begging Mark to tell her what happened, which he wasn't doing, Rachel returns home. When he returns, someone throws a brick through the front window, shattering the glass.

Mark is arrested for distributing child pornography. One of the school administrators visits Rachel's house and tells her the news, but Rachel is left without an apology as the school keeps Dina's bullying hidden instead of arresting her.

At the wheel, Rachel spots Claire and asks her what she knows. Claire reveals that she saw Skylar and Mark hooking up at the after party and saw Dina begging Mark to help stop the footage from circulating. However, Skylar approached and insulted her, forcing Dina to leave. Skylar then revealed that she sent the photos from Mark's phone to another person to prove that Dina wasn't the saint the way she was acting.

Mark comes to visit Rachel and while the two are talking, Mark once again says that he wasn't the one who sent the photos. Due to what she heard from Claire, Rachel believes him and learns from him Dina started jumping in field hockey after the bullying escalated. Rachel thanks Mark for his help and goes to visit her longtime friend and Skylar's mother, Patricia (Judith Hoag).

In a flashback, Claire asks Skylar to fire Dina. However, Skylar says someone should report Dina to the coach so she gets kicked off the team. Later, she manipulates Claire into doing it as she can't because she lost the team captain position to Dina and it would sound like "sour grapes". Skyler also explains why Dina sent a nude photo ending one of the sentences with "no birthmarks" while Claire is still listening to the former's point of view.

At the Reid house, Rachel tells Patricia that she knows Skylar sent the photos. Despite their daughters' rivalry, Patricia refuses to believe that Skylar would do something so terrible. Patricia then asks her daughter in front of Rachel if she sent the photos and Skylar says no. Rachel demands to see Skylar's phone, but Patricia refuses. – After Rachel breaks down, Patricia offers to make her some tea while she repairs herself in the bathroom. Inside, Rachel knocks over a stack of magazines and sees the original words cut out of the letters in her mailbox. After Rachel leaves without revealing what she found, Skylar tells her mother that she sent the photos, but to only one person. Rachel decides to drop the charges against Mark, but wants to change the direction of the investigation to focus on Skylar. However, the police reveal that it was Claire that Skylar also sent the photos and she proceeded to send them to forty other people.

Rachel comes home and hears one of Dina's video diaries playing. In Dina's room, she finds Claire, who runs away. Rachel watches the video in which Dina reveals that she was kicked off the field hockey team because of the photos and lost her scholarship (which Skylar later won) because her coach was forced to report to his college of choice. It turns out that this video diary was the last Dina made before killing herself.

In flashback, Dina is cleaning out her locker when Skylar begins to gloat. The two get into a nasty fight until Skylar reveals that Claire was the one who told the coach. Feeling completely betrayed, Dina viciously turns on Claire as she enters. Clearly upset by the whole situation, Claire says she just didn't want the whole team to be disqualified if Dina's photos were discovered.

Pleading her innocence, Claire insists that she did not send the photos, but intended to destroy them. However, she forgot her phone in the limo on Homecoming and it ended up at Skylar's. Slowly, Rachel realizes that Patricia sent the photos from Claire's phone just as a furious Skylar confronts her mother after discovering the copies on Patricia's phone. She also realizes that it was her mother who ransacked Dina's grave and threw the brick out of Rachel's window. Patricia begs Skylar to understand that she did everything for her because she would never have gotten Price's field hockey scholarship otherwise.

Disgusted by her mother's actions as well as her lack of remorse and refusal to take responsibility for driving Dina to suicide, Skylar takes the family car and drives away, but crashes into a tree shortly. after angrily texting Patricia “I will never forgive you” after her mother sent her a message asking for forgiveness. Patricia is later arrested for distributing child pornography.

Rachel visits Skylar in the hospital, where it is revealed that she may be permanently paralyzed from the waist down. Patricia asks if Rachel came to gloat, but Rachel apologizes that Patricia is going through what she's been through, that she found Dina to be a threat to Skylar's success, and that their friendship was never real. She promises to pray for Skylar's recovery, but vows to see Patricia in court and make sure she is punished for what she did to Dina. Rachel then leaves as Patricia breaks down in tears.

Rachel is shown recording her own video diary, wondering if her quest to understand what Dina went through made a difference. Claire visits her house and asks Rachel to accompany her to school because she has a surprise. Rachel enters the crowded auditorium where Claire gives an impassioned speech about bullying and its deadly consequences. She goes on to say that Dina was bullied to death and that her suicide was the fault of everyone who not only participated in the bullying herself, but also those who allowed it to continue instead. to arrest him (including herself). Starting with her and Mark, the other students give up their cell phones for the rest of the semester and vow to prevent further bullying at school. The film ends with Rachel watching one of Dina's first video diaries with Claire.
