Telegram channels – also called channels – are more like streams than a group chat. If you are subscribed to a channel on a topic, you are just a passive recipient of messages. Unlike groups, channels are aimed at a large and public audience, with only the channel administrator having the right to intervene and write messages. Another difference from group chat is the number of participants. This is unlimited in the case of channels.
Find and create channels Telegram
If you want to join a channel, there are two ways. Either you receive an invitation from one of your contacts or you browse channel lists. Find or create groups Telegram
Telegram groups, in turn, are similar to the classic group chat of WhatsApp. If you want to communicate with several of your friends at the same time, you create a group as an administrator and simply invite your contacts to join the group. It works like this:
- Open Telegram and tap the pencil symbol in the bottom left corner (Android) or top right corner (iOS).
- Choose your favorite New group outside.
- You now enter the people from your contacts that you want to add to the group.
Create supergroups Telegram
Telegram offers you the possibility to set up so-called super groups in addition to the classic group chats. In principle, each group you create can be converted into one. A supergroup can accommodate up to 10 participants who actively chat with each other and, unlike a channel, also have write access. In a supergroup, the entire chat history can be viewed by all participants. Additionally, particularly relevant messages can be pinned so that they can be easily found if needed.

- Just enter the name of the group you want to convert.
- Press the three-line menu and select Supergroup change outside.
- You are now the administrator of a supergroup.
