The NY Times published an article today that appeared on my Twitter feed with the following synopsis: “Unemployed women who sell nudes on OnlyFans struggle to pay their bills.

As the pandemic devastated sectors of the economy, especially those dominated by women, some have turned to OnlyFans to earn money. The explicit photo sales platform has exploded, but competition on the site means revenue is far from guaranteed.

It's a mix of success stories and rude awakenings. A woman, Savannah Benavidez, turned to OF in July when her son's daycare closed, and she has raised $ 64000 since:

Hooray! There is a story of well-being. Lady earns so much BANK that she gives it to her friends. PS - if you don't know what to do with $ 64 you have to watch Jake Paul vlogs. There are plenty of things in there that will help you spend that money really fast. Boats… champagne… exotic animals… it will be easy.
Meanwhile, across the room:
Lexi Eixenberger was hoping for a similar boon when she opened an account OnlyFans in November… at the suggestion of some friends, she turned to OnlyFans. So far, she has only earned around $ 500.
Elle Morocco of West Palm Beach, Fla., was fired from her job as bureau chief in July. Her unemployment checks don't cover her $1600 monthly rent, utility bills and food costs, so she joined OnlyFans in November.
But Ms Morocco, 36, had no social media presence when she joined the platform and had to gain followers one by one - by posting pictures of herself on Instagram and Twitter, and making tracking likes and comments. on his posts, encouraging everyone to subscribe to OnlyFans.
So far, she has only earned $ 250 on the platform, although she sometimes spends more than eight hours a day creating, posting, and promoting her content.
Ms Maroc is also concerned that her presence on the platform will make it more difficult for her to be hired for traditional jobs in the future.
As much as I admire the basic strategy of Ms. Morocco, in the immortal words of Quintus:
"People should know when they are won over."
And yeah, Maximus, I would know. $ 250 in three months, spending over EIGHT HOURS A DAY on this stuff ?! It is much less than the minimum wage. I don't even think it meets the minimum wage in developing countries.
The fact is that OnlyFans is not automatic. Most people knew this without having to learn it the hard way. But like any get-rich-quick scheme, sometimes people's stories not which makes the surface a bit longer. All we've been hearing for at least a year are these stories that are the envy of people who create an account OnlyFans and suddenly earn tens of thousands of dollars. Never even saw it coming! I can not believe !! Who knew boobs could be so precious!!!
Now, finally, the NYTimes reminds us that nature can be cruel, but balanced. For every overnight millionaire on OF, there are tens - maybe thousands, maybe even tens of thousands - of aspiring people who haven't found gold. And now they will have a harder time finding a job.
But hey, as I like to say, the knowledge is invaluable. That means at least you've tried and got your answer, right? I applied to Yale Law School with no chance to enter. But the day this rejection letter arrived? I slept better than in weeks. Because in the end, I was sure that in a million years, I would never be allowed to attend their school.
